SAFE WORDS & SPELLS – Two Erotic Romances

Night Owl Romance, Reviewed by Priscilla Petty

Law & Disorder – Ms. Pita has written several other novels about the BDSM lifestyle, but this book is my first introduction. I was immediately intrigued by her smooth wording and obvious knowledge about submissive behavior. As the story goes on, and I got to know Miranda, I was surprised by how easily I could relate to the way she felt about her sexuality. All of the characters in this book drew me in to who they were, and how they helped to shape Miranda. During some of the scenes the feelings were explosive as she expected the punishment from her lover, Michael, for not telling him of the previous sexual relationship with Patrick. For him it wasn’t that she had sex, it was that she lost the courage to tell him. We watch as she embraces her beating, not wanting to lose Michael for her foolish infidelity. Eventually, Miranda understands, with the help of her friend, Sarah, that Michael is not upset that she had sex with another man, but more with the fact that she wasn’t honest about wanting to explore her needs… The way this wonderful story was told, many who are not openly in the lifestyle will wonder if this book could be about them and their own eventual journey into submissiveness. I highly recommend this story and will be talking about it for some time.

Moonlight’s Edge – Moonlight’s Edge is the second story in this anthology of erotic promise. We meet Sofia who has just broken up with her boyfriend. After also losing her best friend to a heart attack, she is flabbergasted to find that he left her a magnificent 20 acre estate in Louisiana. She eagerly moves in and soon begins to experience sinful and erotic dreams of being sexually dominated by a vampire. Strangely, she wakes up from one of her intense dreams one morning and notices a bite on her neck.

This author continues to amaze.
Sofia eventually realizes that John, the stranger next door, is meant to dominate her just like the man in her dreams. We embrace the pain and pleasure as the two soon fall helplessly in love. Some of the scenes are quite intense but fit in well with where the story wants to lead us. Sofia is a little afraid of the intensity she sees in John’s eyes and yet holds her breath with anticipation as he takes her to extreme heights of sensuality. She wants to please her “lord” above all else. Her pure need overwhelms her and we feel it too as her dreams begin to come true. The writer makes us believe that if we dream and want something badly enough, we’ll get our wish.

This entire book flowed so effortlessly that I was able to understand the mind of a submissive and how easy it is to be drawn to a sexually dominant man. Haven’t we all experienced dreams or desires of being with a man who isn’t afraid of his masculinity and telling us what it is we really want in a relationship.

WOMEN’S FICTION REVIEWS

Moonlight’s Edge  is a magical, mystical, metaphysical, sensual work from the prolific author of BDSM fiction and non-fiction, Maria Isabel Pita. Ms. Pita’s ability at poetry as well as prose shines through this wonderful, astonishing, work. Although I have never read any of her books prior to this time, rest assured I intend to hunt down, read, and savor each one!

Sofia is a professor of obscure folk poetry at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Her sole outlets for her soul and spirit are poetry, and her friendship and mentorship with an older professor, Robert. On the same evening, her seven-year relationship with her pet boy-toy, Steve, ends when he hits her, and Robert dies of a heart attack. Suddenly synchronicity leaps into gear, and all good things converge. Even in her grief, she prepares to move out of the apartment she has shared with Steve, and Robert’s will leaves her the upstate country home he had built for his wife and young daughter. The house was never inhabited because mother and daughter were killed unexpectedly in a road accident.

As soon as
Sofia enters her new home, the wings of her spirit begin to unfold, and within a few days she first dreams of a past life and then meets her rural neighbor, who embodies that past life lover. They enter into a relationship in which Sofia excels in the submission she experiences to his domination, and love – as well as extraordinary sensuality – blossoms gloriously.

This is a highly recommended story with the stricture that it involves graphic and extreme BDSM elements.

ROMANCE JUNKIES

Sofia has just found the man of her dreams, but will he be willing to fulfill her darkest desires?

Sofia Angelou has just gotten out of a bad relationship.  For seven years she had been with a man who wouldn’t fulfill her desires, and gave a shockingly cruel reason to end their relationship.  That very same night her dearest friend dies, leaving her his property in
Clinton, LA.  Feeling overcome by such emotional hardships, Sofia takes time off work as a poetry professor and moves into the new home left to her, where the image of a man near a bonfire steals her deepest imagination.

In her new home her dreams become deeply, darkly, and wildly erotic.  Then when she meets John, her neighbor, she finds that she is becoming more honest with what she needs.  John offers to give her everything she is slowly admitting she desires.

Moonlight’s Edge is an incredible journey and a true delight to read.
Sofia is able to find a secret side of herself and is accepted by a man who allows her to express all she craves from him. Sofia awakens to herself through this book, and it was wonderful to be along with her for the journey. Maria Isabel Pita is a must read author with a style readers will love instantly. For the fantastic range of emotions and beautiful writing style, I give Moonlight’s Edge a five ribbon rating.

JUST EROTIC ROMANCE REVIEWS

Sofia Angelou spent seven long years in a comfortable, yet dispassionate state with a man she knew deep down wasn’t her true love.  That is, until that fateful night when Steve became violent, and Sofia resigned herself to reevaluate her shell of a relationship.  Simultaneously, just as she could take no more, her professor, colleague and cherished friend dies alone, from a heart attack.  Feeling the same connection to Sofia as he did to his long deceased daughter,
Robert remembered Sophia in his will.  Leaving her twenty acres and a mansion, she now had the courage and the means to leave Steve.  Beginning her sabbatical,
Sofia never imagined what would be in store for her; the dreams, her sensual awakening and the man who was her neighbor.  Hence, Sofia embarks on a mission of self discovery and uncovers something mystical, sensual and so erotically charged that the lines between reality and dreams begin to blur.  One
night,
Sofia meets her closest neighbor, John and suddenly, the man in her dreams is standing before her in the flesh.  Is John the man in her dreams and could they known each other before? Will she ever be the same once those erotically charged dreams come to life?

Moonlight’s Edge is the first work from Ms. Pita that I have had the pleasure to read.  One might say that it’s not for the faint of heart.  One might also say the relationship between John and Sofia is something you cannot miss.  Descriptive in her writing style, when it comes to an erotic love scene, Ms. Pita delivers.  I did at times find myself wanting to skip though the day to day scenes and even some of the poetry to get the heart of the story.  But once I made it through,
I was well rewarded.  I must make a warning here.  If you feel erotic asphyxiation is offensive this might not be the book for you.  But kudos to any author who can describe something to me that I really don’t desire in my own sexual lifestyle but make me NEED to do it!!  Intensely erotic and mystical, Moonlight’s Edge makes a great addition to your erotic romance library.  My only wish was to see more between this couple.  To me, the mark of a good book is one that you never want to end; I could have kept on reading about Sofia and John forever.  Give this one a try, I promise you won’t regret it.

COFFEE TIME ROMANCE

Astounding. Ms. Pita is well known for her erotic work, and in this story she has excelled even herself. By pushing the envelope just a bit, Ms. Pita has opened up a world of dark, edgy erotica. Cleverly written and tastefully done, this story is not for the faint of heart. Intense characters, steady dialogue, and scorching hot sex scenes are the foundation of this story. And by keeping an air of mystery about it the whole time, you will be mesmerized from the beginning, as it leads you toward the ultimate ending.

Miranda Covington supports herself in Boston while working on her degree in poetry as an artist’s model. After having a one night stand with her oil delivery man, Patrick, she realizes she loves dominant powerful men.  Patrick stroked a part of her that her younger boyfriends have never touched.  Yet she is torn since she knows nothing about him other than he is married and can command her body to heights of passion she has never known.

Enter Michael Keneen, an artist pursuing his Masters in Fine Arts and captivated by the beautiful Miranda.  Knowing that he can never capture her beauty and grace on paper he still struggles to find a semblance of her inner glow on the pages of his sketch pad.  He decides to pursue her and find a way into her heart.  Miranda is overwhelmed by Michael and feels he could be her soul mate.  Yet she is scared that she could lose him because of her affair with Patrick but is willing to take a chance.  Can the budding love survive the power of Miranda’s desires?

Ms. Pita once again entrances the reader with the flowing melody of her words, the detailed and intriguing characters, and the passionate demonstration of love and submission freely given.  Miranda is a confident woman, who loves her life and embraces it while seeking more from it.  With Patrick she discovers a part of herself she didn’t know existed.  Their rutting pushes her buttons.  Even though she is happy with the quick passion Patrick gives her, she desires more.  Michael is confident and so incredibly sexy.    He looks for nothing beyond his art and within it he finds the beautiful Miranda.  His pursuit is relentless and he desires to please her with dominance and finds that it fits his powerful, confident, quiet persona.  Their love affair touches quick at the soul. The sex had me wishing for an entire new set of toys.  The passion is a blazing inferno of lust, love, and surrender for all involved.  My only wish is that more detail had been given about Miranda’s growth with other secondary characters, who are whole and enchanting.  Intriguing possibilities were left unanswered, which left me unfulfilled.  If you are a lover of BDSM books then you will love the latest release from Ms. Pita.  If you want a glimpse into the intrinsic beauty of a submissive and the love they share with their Master, then this is a story that must not be missed.

COFFEE TIME ROMANCE

Miranda Covington appears to be a typical twenty-three year old Catholic woman, but the way she supports herself is quite unconventional. She is an artist’s model, posing nude unselfconsciously in front of a class of college art students. Then one day she locks eyes with a handsome artist while posing, and mentally declares him her other half. She fights with her conscience and her honesty demands she be truthful, but yields unexpected bonuses.

Michael is a drop-dead gorgeous artist from a family of policemen, defying his assumed destiny to explore his art. Approaching the act of recreating on canvas what he sees in real life, as if it is a sacred ceremony, he glimpses a model that strikes at his heart with a thunderbolt of recognition, and knows she is his. What he discovers about her suits him to perfection.
Will he find out anything disturbing?

Miranda and Michael begin the voyage towards inner knowledge, each discovering new insights into themselves. Miranda explores her dark yearnings, while Michael draws them out and magnifies them, both evolving into more mature adults, growing in their intimacy. They have to face some incriminating information that will ultimately either break them, or strengthen their bond. Power is an addictive force, be it wielded by force or by law. Only the one in possession of it can decide its use. Are soul mates found, or made?

Ms.
Maria Isabel Pita has written a beautiful book of self-discovery and acceptance. The subject of BDSM is, in itself, very interesting and with this book the reader is allowed the opportunity to explore those boundaries safely. Miranda’s quandary is her apparent need for punishment and forgiveness, possibly stemming from her Catholic upbringing. Michael, with his rebellious streak, finds that while turning his back on what is a generations old tradition is fulfilling, he is also following another more darkly exhilarating path. The sexual encounters were intense and Miranda’s submissiveness allows her permission to act on her kinky inclinations without guilt. I found Ms Pita’s prose to be engaging and intellectually challenging. I absolutely loved it.

EROTICA BY CLOHI

Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of reviewing Maria Isabel Pita's Guilty Pleasures. I found that book to be well written, engaging and tantalizing. When I received a copy of Maria's Law & Disorder, I was excited. One word of warning. Never do what I did and read this book while on a plane. Anguish I tell you.

Law & Disorder is the story of Miranda, an artist's model who specializes in sitting nude. One night, quite by accident, Miranda begins to realize that she has a submissive side she wasn't aware of. Attracted to a married stranger in black, Miranda does the unthinkable and has wild unadulterated sex with him. Not long after she meets Michael, an artist. The two quickly become inseparable and Michael plays to Miranda's need to be submissive, controlled. This is the story of a woman becoming her master's slave and loving it.

The story that Maria Isabel Pita paints is intriguing and intelligent. This isn't just sex, though that is the primary thread throughout. It's about self discovery and trust. When Miranda confesses her fantasies to Michael, she puts her trust in him to the test. Is she willing to do everything he tells here, without question? The relationship that develops is loving with an edge to it that just made the reading more unstoppable.

I wasn't prepared for every twist and turn and I will admit that some of the situations were a little over the edge for me. However, Law & Disorder is worth everyone's time. Especially if you have discovered you have a slightly submissive streak of your own (like I have). And again, don't read while mid-flight. Unless you really love to torture yourself. In which case, maybe you should get to know your neighbor and see what happens.
